Description
Rocks and Feathers is Maureen Lane’s sixth book and her first memoir. It tells the story of her generation of women. It takes readers on a funny and warm journey through her early childhood through to her teenage rebellion in the 1960s. She tells how she became a teenage bride and mother, then a school teacher with a bright academic career ahead of her. Her life and career were then struck a significant blow. It is a story of resilience against the backdrop of Yarraville in the 1950s, including her beloved Sun Theatre, the 1960s Australian rock scene and the beginnings of 1970s and 1980s feminism in Melbourne. It is about the setbacks in life that we carry as rocks and a love letter to the feathers in her life – her friends and family – who have lightened her load.
